Bordertown and Surrounding Suburbs

Bordertown

Situated on the Dukes Highway between Adelaide and Melbourne, Bordertown is the entry point from Victoria for many visitors to the Limestone Coast. Bordertown is the southern gateway to the desert parks of Ngarkat and Big Desert National Parks. The nearby Poocher Swamp is a wetlands reserve set among magnificent red gums several centuries old and is ideal for picknicking and yabbing.

The nearby historic town of Mundulla is a thriving small rural town that boasts many original houses from the early 1900's and the heritage-listed Mundulla Hotel is a great example of the architecture. There is a self-guided walk around the Moot-Yang-Gunya Swamp Eco trail. The Moot-Yang-Gunya Festival and Stockman's Challenge is held each March.

Wolseley is 13 kilometres east of Bordertown. It was once an important railway junction and was the site of a fuel storage scheme during World War II. Among the town attractions there is a pub; a Gladiolus Farm and Teatrick Lavender Estate welcome visitors by appointment.

Keith

Keith is regarded as the Lucerne capital of Australia. Keith is a modern country township on Dukes Highway, at the junction of the Riddoch Highway. Heritage Street, lying parallel to Dukes Highway, features an outstanding travellers rest area including a heritage rotunda, shaded picnic areas and children's playground (complete with a mono-rail!)

Keith offers bike paths, an 18 hole golf course with resident kangaroos, antique and craft shops and quality accommodation along with some excellent country bakeries. From Keith visit the Mount Rescue Conservation Park and do the day 4WD adventure loop past Mount Rescue and Goose Hill.

Padthaway

The history of Padthaway stretches back to 1847. Today, rows and rows of vineyards, interspersed with majestic gum trees, thread down either side of the Riddoch Highway producing a variety of wines, including the renowned Padthaway Shiraz and Chardonnay.

Sixty kilometres south of Keith, Padthaway has a cluster of small shops located in the heart of town, with park, playground, skate park and sculptural gateway marker nearby.
